Ajloun is home to the historic Ajloun Castle (Qal'at ar-Rabad), built by Saladin's general Izz al-Din Usama in 1184-1185 CE to defend against Crusader advances. The city features several ancient mosques including the Great Mosque of Ajloun, which showcases traditional Islamic architecture with its minaret and prayer halls. The predominantly Muslim population maintains strong Islamic traditions, and the area served as an important strategic location during the Islamic conquests and later periods of Islamic rule.
