Touba is the holy city of the Mouride brotherhood and the second-largest city in Senegal, founded in 1887 by Sheikh Ahmadou Bamba. The city is dominated by the magnificent Great Mosque of Touba, one of the largest mosques in Africa, featuring stunning Moorish and Islamic architectural elements with towering minarets reaching 87 meters high. As the spiritual center of millions of Mourides worldwide, Touba hosts the annual Magal pilgrimage, attracting over three million Muslims who come to honor the founder of the Mouride movement.
